Hold on to your Seats!

Toastmaster Stan Coss started off the meeting with the theme of driving and being driven.  Stan expressed his apprehension about riding shotgun with his daughter Chloe, who will get her learner's permit in two weeks.  Other apprehensions were expressed by some members on the driverless cars soon to be on the road.  Stanley Yurst, who manages a transportation company, voiced great positive anticipation of this during his table topic.

No, Don is not taking driver's ed, but he is supportive of Stan's theme.

Jokemasters were enlisted to tell two riddles on drivers.  This required great listening skills, and Ron Climer solved the first one with much aplomb.

Margaret Davis, as a former police officer for nearly 30 years in Vermont, gave her Pathways Ice-Breaker with the title of  “GOOD GRIEF Charlie Brown, will I ever get over my fear of public speaking?"

Margaret and Ron really don't need this lectern.

Nathan Garnett gave some answers to address his speech on “What Happens When We Die?”  He gave this in the form of a poem.

Table Topics Master Michael Thompson brought up a truckload of interesting, challenging prompts for his task.  It was a great preview of the sort of impromptu speaking we can look forward to in the next meeting which will focus on TT's exclusively.  One question Michael had was at what age a teenage girl could safely go on a date with a boy in a car.  Had Stan, also the father of a 15-year-old girl, been given the prompt, he'd say that chaperons and supervised group get-togethers are an excellent alternative.

Melinda and Betty are all in when it comes to giving glows and grows.

The Evaluator of Margaret's speech was Jeanne Resen, and the Evaluator of Nathan's speech was Melinda Lowrance.  The eyes and ears team consisted of  Wordmaster, Karla Reese; Ah-Counter, Ron Climer; Timer, Don Groff; and Grammarian, Brad Dienst.  GE/Table Topics Evaluator was Betty McCallister.

President Judy covered an exciting new chapter of exploration that she and Karla Reese have created at Pardee Hospital with Mary Beth Dallman, the Staff Development Coordinator for the whole organization of around 1,400 people.  There will be a lunch and learn from 12:00-1:00 on Nov. 7th at Pardee in addition to our regular meeting that same morning at Lake Pointe.  Pardee has a lunch and learn each month where employees can bring or buy their own lunch, so our members may do the same on this day when Toastmasters will be featured.

Then on Dec. 7th we will have our 8:00 meeting at the same Pardee room.  The same will happen for our 8:00 meeting for the last Wed. in Jan., Feb., and March.  This may result in more Pardee employees being added to our membership roll.  We may also consider Pardee as a possible meeting place on a more permanent basis.  This is truly a ground-breaking event!

Thanks to Karla, VP of PR, and Judy for such an innovation!

Melinda challenged individual club members to match the club's contribution of up to $50 to Interfaith Assistance Ministry, and they did, dollar to dollar for what will be a $100 joint contribution.   The IAM was a wonderful hosting place for our speech contest this fall,  and it's a great prospective place for our spring contest.  Your donations of gently used clothes to IAM are also welcomed; we already have an account as a clothes contributor, so you can join in there, too.

Now, for the upcoming meeting, bring on those table topics!
