We Are Family!

There were clearly three stand-outs in today's meeting for which Carol Walters was Toastmaster:  Dr. Stan Dienst visiting the club he'd been a past member of for more than 10 years; Melinda Lowrance giving her speech on "Women and their Rights; Karla Reese's mastering some very interesting table topics.
Melinda gave a spirited delivery that included some choice words and a mini-speech by Sojourner Truth from 1851.  One memorable Truth was a rebuff of a man of the era saying  women can't have as many rights as men, because Christ wasn't a woman: "Where did your Christ come from? From God and a woman! Man had nothing to do with it."
Ron Climer eagerly did the ah-counting, Sally did the grammarian report of all the descriptive language, and Nathan Garnett did the timing.  Betty gave us some mentoring on how we might raise our family count to more than the current 14 members.  Ron did an evaluation for Melinda's speech to bring out more of an audience chant.
Karla led with some table topic prompts that gave some real "family" sharing, giving insight into interests of the speakers that are here paraphrased but not quoted.  If Carol could only have one physical object that she could take away in a backpack, it would be dark chocolate.  If Brad could be a fly on the wall, the wall would be would U2's, the rock band he is enamored with.   If Hoyt could be a member of any rock band, it would not be a rock band but a big band like Woody Herman's.   If Dr. Stan could be any age for a short while, he said he'd not be ninety but 15 so he could look at all the girls and be aware of all the beautiful things in life. If Melinda was to be given advice at age 16, it would to not become an entrepreneur because it's easier to work for someone else.  If Don #2 could choose between failing or never trying, he'd fail because that propels him to take the next step without regrets.  If Don #1 chose a set of words that represented him, it would include luck and love:  luck to have two loving parents and the work in schools he loved to do, the wife he loves to go home to, and the daughter that routinely calls to show her love.  Sally said the life lesson she learned the hard way was to let her husband do the farm work he  loved to do.  She said she'd not have tried to talk him out of it even if it was very hard work.
It was not very obvious to hear the word of the day in all this: perspicuous.  Brad Dienst gave an accounting of all the "self-reckoning" speeches the table topics prompted.

Brad welcomes his family member that was also a part of his Toastmaster family; Brad and Dr. Stan shared in being TM members together for a decade.

Dr. Stan speaks about having an awareness of all the beautiful things.
