Joyful

Judy opened the meeting with the installation of the officers for the 2019-2020 program year who were in attendance.  She presented tools to them to symbolize the roles they will play in the club.  The officers installed were Melinda Lowrance—Sergeant at Arms; Don Groff—Treasurer; Stan Coss – Secretary; Karen Alexander—VP of Education; and Susann Swan—President.

Toastmaster Karen Alexander gave joyful as the theme.  The role of word master was vacant but presented no problem, as the word master, Sally Jones, posted a print out of Conundrum.  Susann gave the joke of the day about some special parrots.

Sally gave an 8 to 10 minute speech about “Conquering the Cold Call.”  She enlisted Betty to be her cold call as they discussed homes with problems with odors, and Sally tried to sell an air purification system to Betty.
Joseph gave his speech about what a shaman is and what tools are used.  This speech was to incorporate feedback from a prior speech into a current speech.   He showed tools of an eye mask, a rattle, and a drum.

Table Topics Master  Randy called on MaryBeth to speak about who would bring her joy to meet again.  She spoke about riding horses as a child, and how it would bring her joy to go to her riding instructor and ride horses again.
Randy invited Brad to talk about a lottery win and with whom he would split the winnings.  Brad said that he would share his lottery winnings with his fiancée, and they would be philanthropic like Bill and Melinda Gates.
Randy asked Molly to speak about something that would take her joy away.  She spoke about how she would react to her mother facing a health challenge.

Melinda gave the evaluation of Sally’s speech. She praised Sally for asking questions of Betty instead of waiting for Betty to ask them.  She noted Sally’s enthusiasm and asking the audience for feedback.  Melinda also praised how Sally kept the interest of the audience.
Judy evaluated Joseph’s speech.   She expressed satisfaction with how he made the audience more comfortable with the topic of shamanism and incorporated the earlier feedback into his current speech.  The grow is to step into the audience more to show the shaman’s tools.  She urged him to make intentional movements more than random ones.

Brad gave the grammarian report.
Randy gave the ah counter report, with detailed examples.
Don G. gave the timer’s report.

Hoyt gave the General and TT evaluation.  He praised the meeting for overcoming small problems.  He enjoyed how Judy used visual aids to enhance the installation of officers portion of the meeting.  He suggested that the question be announced to the group to give them a few moments to contemplate an answer before the TT master calls on a speaker.

Judy reminded members on the upcoming social and called for volunteers to plan this out.  She asked the two guests for their impressions of the meeting.
