The Toast of Pardee

This morning, our club was the Toast of Pardee Hospital. On the last Wed. of Feb., March, and April, the FSTM will hold its regular meeting in the orientation room at Pardee to introduce hospital employees to the world of Toastmasters and to enable them to participate and join our club.

Jeanne Resen served as the Toastmaster of the day and her theme was “Personal Growth.”
The Eyes and Ears team for the day was: Margaret Davis, Word Master; Sally Jones,  Joke Master; Judy Groff, Grammarian; Ah  Counter, Melinda; Timer, Susann Swan.  Margaret’s word for the day was “tenacious.”

Michael Thompson delivered his speech, "Being Grateful", as a practice run before he has to deliver this speech before the Chamber of Commerce on Feb. 8.  Michael was inspired for his speech from member Stanley Yurth’s speech several weeks ago about feeling gratitude for his life.  Stan Coss evaluated Michael’s speech, offering glow and grow suggestions.  Members of the audience were then encouraged to voice suggestions as well.  This was the Evaluation and Feedback project of Pathways, so he will deliver the speech next week using the feedback for further refinement.

Following Michael was our club’s answer to Knute Rockney, Don Groff, who delivered his speech using the metaphor of the “Little Engine that Could,” about coaching his school’s football team.  Even non-football fans were captivated by his animated presentation about the final play of the championship game.  An unbiased evaluation of Don’s speech was delivered by his wife, Judy.

Melinda Lowrance conducted the table topics related to the day’s theme:   The questions, related to what to do when one’s career feels stagnant, who moved my cheese, and showing confidence were responded by Judy Groff, Pardee employee Caitlin, and Karen Alexander.

In attendance were the following: Judy and Don Groff, Jeanne Resen, Karen Alexander, Sally Jones, Michael Thompson, Melinda Lowrance, Stan Coss, Margaret Davis, Susann Swan, Karla Reese, Don Emon, Brad Dienst, and about five Pardee staff members.

Karen Alexander wrapped up the meeting as General and Table Topics Evaluator.
