Transitions

It was a great meeting that can only be described as agog. Everyone was agog to be there and agog to participate in their respective roles.  Margaret really hit it out of the park today with her Word of the Day: Agog, meaning excited. Just about every single person used it at least once during the meeting.

Don One did an excellent job leading our meeting. The theme he chose was Transitions which was echoed later by our Table Topics Master, Betty.  Before our two speeches, Nathan shared with us a humorous tale about a tourist, the Empire State Building, and an alcoholic version of Superman.

Stanley is on double duty expertly counting Ah's and timing speeches

Our first speech was given by Hoyt who spoke about the company Great Courses which allows you to take college courses in a convenient and inexpensive way. He specifically highlighted a course on public speaking which he thought would be of interest to us Toastmasters, and he highlighted some of the different ways to experience these courses such as digitally or audio only. Hoyt was later evaluated by Stan.

Our second speech was an Ice Breaker speech from Sally. We've enjoyed hearing a copious amount of Ice Breaker speeches recently, and it's helped our members get a snapshot of one another. Sally shared with us the story of her life, focusing on her childhood home, jobs, and her move to Hendersonville. Sally was later evaluated by Melinda.

As Table Topic Master, Betty excelled at describing what table topics are, how to approach them, and how to get the most out of them. She emphasized using the Word of the Day in our mini speeches. Continuing with the theme of transitions, her questions included: What would you do if you won the lottery? If you only had a backpack, what would you put in it? And what do you think has been the greatest invention? Members who were called on to participate were Melinda, Don E, Brad, Jeanne, Stanley and Amy.

Amy described her passion for Copy Blogger despite no one else knowing what that is.

Our eyes and ears team were as follows: Ah Counter/Timer - Stanley, Word Master - Margaret, and Grammarian - Judy. After their reports, we heard from our General Evaluator, Michael, who gave several meeting glows, and our President Judy concluded with 2 announcements about our party later this month and our humorous speech contest on October 6th which will be held at Interfaith.

In attendance were the following: Stan, Betty, Brad, Stanley, Nathan, Hoyt, Don E., Judy, Don 1, Sally, Jeanne, Margaret, Melissa, Melinda, Amy, and Michael.

Thanks to our special guest, Suzanne Swan, for being with us a second time and joining our club with a transfer official October 1!
