Remembering Those Who've Touched Our Lives

Brad led an excellent meeting this morning and chose the theme of Memorializing: Remembering Those Who've Touched Our Lives. Nathan tied into that theme by choosing the word "Quintessential" as the Word of the Day, describing his grandfather as the perfect or typical, quintessential grandfather.

Margaret brought a dose of humor to the group with a joke about maple syrup, putting authentic Maple that she sells in samples instead of "putting awful on your waffle."

Karen gave her Ice Breaker speech, although this wasn't exactly her first speech. She has been a part of Toastmasters for 25 years, serving as a District Governor and earning the top designation as Distinguished Toastmaster. Her speech focused on the pursuit of happiness and sharing the best of yourself.

Nathan gave our second speech titled "Show Me the Money" and used that opportunity to practice a speech about his long-term care insurance business that he will be giving later this month. It was a great example on how you can utilize Toastmasters as a tool for your life outside of Toastmasters.

Don Groff led our Table Topics, continuing the theme of Memorializing. The topics included remembering your favorite teacher, remembering your favorite mentor or coach, and comparing the memorial services of John McCain and Aretha Franklin. Members who were called on to participate were Jeanne, Michael, Melinda, and Ron.

Betty then evaluated Karen's speech and had lots of glows but had some difficulty finding anything for her to work on, which tends to happen with DTM's.

Don Emon evaluated Nathan's "dress rehearsal" after that and gave him some good pointers for him to incorporate when he gives his talk later this month. Don also talked about how the information in Nathan's speech related to him personally which is a nice touch when evaluating another member.

As usual, the Eyes and Ears Team did a great job with their roles and assessments. Our Grammarian was Amy, our Word Master was Nathan, our Timer was Stanley, and our Ah Counter was Ron.

Our General/TT Evaluator was president Judy Groff who gave some good grows in regard to meeting structure such as encouraging us to remember to formally hand off control of the meeting by shaking hands.

Thanks to Suzanne Swan for being our honored guest this morning!

And remember to get your club dues to Stan; he will have a drawing on the 26th for those who've paid the $60 dues for six months.  The six paying today have their name in the pot four times, those by the 12th three times, those by the 19th twice, and those on the 26th, once.

Those in attendance: Jeanne, Margaret, Stan, Melinda, Nathan, Sally, Hoyt, Don 1, Don E, Ron, Michael, Stanley, Amy, Karen, Betty, Brad, and Melissa.

Melinda Lowrance gives her typically spirited manner of speaking.  Judy Groff leads her monthly meeting
of the officers in timely fashion after the main meeting concludes.
